1.1.2 Advantages and New Features

The high-resolution D15D-DualDome camera is the even more powerful successor to the

D14D and is the ﬁrst MOBOTIX camera to feature ﬁve-megapixel image sensors. Due to

technical reasons, the maximum size at which the images of a D15D sensor can be dis

played is 3.1 megapixels (live or recorded). Despite this, the D15D outperforms the previous

D14D model and other dome cameras on the market in many respects.

Smooth HiRes Video Streams

The modiﬁed hardware of the D15D ensures that the video streams of the camera are

transmitted even more smoothly than those of the high-performance D14D, particularly

at high resolutions. As image streams from a rate of 16 frames per second are perceived

by the human eye as continuous movement, the maximum frame rate remains limited to

30fps (for MEGA resolution 1280x960) to ensure that sucient camera processing power

is available for other tasks.

Conclusive Still Images

Thanks to the proprietary MxPEG video codec developed exclusively for MOBOTIX cameras,

the cameras oer the advantage that a recording can be paused at any given point and

still provide meaningful and useful snapshots due to the absence of distortion. This is

essential for security applications and allows individuals or license plates to be identiﬁed,

for example. In contrast, the H.264 standard, which was developed for feature movies

and is favored by some video security providers, cannot achieve this with the required

level of quality.

Good Color Images Even in Low Light

The more light-sensitive an image sensor is, the better the image quality, especially when

the ambient light level is low, such as at dusk and in heavy rainfall. The D15D oers the

best MOBOTIX image quality that is currently available thanks to the light sensitivity pro

vided by the ﬁve-megapixel color sensor that is four times higher than that of the previous

three-megapixel color sensor.

More Details When Zooming

The maximum zoom factor of the D15D is 1.26 times higher than that of the D14D due to

the use of ﬁve-megapixel technology. This means that the degree of detail provided by

the camera has improved by 26 percent. As a result, a D15D can now be installed even

further away than before from the objects and areas to be monitored. In addition, this

relativizes the horizontal image angles of the new ﬁve-megapixel sensors that are slightly

smaller compared to the D14D.

Black and White Resolution Now Up to 3.1 Megapixels

The D15D is the ﬁrst MOBOTIX camera worldwide to also feature a ﬁve-megapixel night

sensor that can deliver black and white images of up to 3.1 megapixel resolution. This

means that in pixels alone images are roughly 140% larger than those delivered by the
